Georgia match review
Georgia defeated Wales 2-1 in a hard-fought decision.
The match was peculiar affair where Wales drew first blood at the sixteen minute mark with Wigan’s Jason Koumas scoring on a soft strike from well outside the box that appeared to be a easy save but the ball was bobbled over the line by the Georgian ‘keeper. With the start of the second half, the Georgian squad went on the attack and created numerous problems for Wales. Finally at the sixty-sixth minute, Schalke 04′ Levan Kenia leveled the match off a fine feed from Rati Aleksidze. The match was headed to a 1-1 draw before a defensive lapse failed to clear a loose ball and Georgia’s Beka Gotsiridze pounced on it and headed it into the back of the net to give the visitors the victory. While the loss certainly is a disappointment, John Toshack can many positives from it and will also consider how many of the top flight “unders” were drafted into the earlier U-21 match against Romania.
