Wales U21 head to playoff round

September 10th, 2008 | By: j | No Comments »

With the daunting task of upending Romania’s eighteen match unbeaten streak and having many of the upper-echelon players assigned to the senior squad, Wales U-21 defeated Romania 3-0.

With goals from Simon Church (Reading), Rhys Williams (Middlesbrough) and Rhoys Wiggins (Crystal Palace), Wales books its place in the UEFA Euro U-21 play-offs.

In a theme that would be repeated Aaron Ramsey’s corner at the twelfth minutes was fired home by Rhys Williams. At the fifty-seventh minute Aaron’s corner resulted in Wales second goal, this from Simon Church. At the sixty-seventh mark Rhoys Wiggins rounded out the scoring.

The playoff draw will be held on Friday with matches played on 11/12 and 14/15 October on a home-and-away basis. These will conflict with the senior squads World Cup qualifying matches against Liechtenstein (October 11) and Germany (October 15).
